Crawford County was part of the Arkansas Territory. In 1833 Scott County was
created from Crawford Co. In 1836 the Arkansas Territory became the
twenty-fifth state in the Union. (1)
In 1871 parts of Scott, Pope, Franklin, Johnson and Yell counties were
annexed and Logan County, AR was created. The David Logan grave which is
located in the family grave yard is now located in Logan County, AR.
His grave and a plaque are located at the site of the old Logan
Plantation Southeast of Booneville, Logan Co., Arkansas.

obituary published in the Arkansas Gazette, Little Rock, AR, Sept. 1, 1835
"Departed this life, in Crawford Co., AR, on the 11th ........Mr. David Logan,
(father of Col. James Logan, one of the Representatives from that County) age
68 yrs., 8 mo and 15 days. He was a native of VA and emigrated to what is now
the flourishing and populous state of Kentucky. While a boy, assisted in the
erecting the first cabin on the spot where Lexington Now stands; suffered all
the privations and encountered all the difficulties and dangers attending the
first settlement of that country; was present at the reduction of Chillicothe
in Ohio and all the other Indian towns on the Miamies, under Capts. John
Dougherty and Simon Kenton. He was a good citizen, and honest man, and a
sincere friend".

1811 David Logan father of James, moved with his wife, 3 sons, and 5 daughters
and 12 + slaves to New Madrid, MO. New Madrid was located on the west bank of
the Mississippi River. They were looking for a suitable tract to build a
plantation. After the earthquake of 1811 they moved in January 1812 50 miles
west of New Madrid to Wayne Co. MO. and bought a large tract of land on the ST.
Francis River. When James was 23 he married Rachel Steel. They lived on the
Logan Plantation until 1820.
!MARRIAGE:David Logan married Nancy Thurmond on 15 June 1790, Lincoln County,
